Recce Report

Before filming we must investigate the possible locations for filming. In our Recce Reports we look to assess the different locations to see whether or not they are suitable for filming and elements which we should be aware of to make sure it is safe. The elements we are looking for are the following;
-          Health and Safety concerns
-          Parking or Equipment access
-          Electrical outlets/power supplies
-          Available lighting sources (Natural and artificial)
-          Requirement of permission to film on site
-          Viability in creating a suitable and intended atmosphere
-          Space and filming possibilities
-          Area for shooting, cast, equipment

Kitchen/ Hallway Scene
For this scene we were looking to film in a house, in particular a kitchen and hallway. This was a very easy decision as I could use my own home. It contains enough space and has props already available for the cast to use at their disposal. Also it is very easy to control the lighting in either the kitchen or the hallway in order to get the atmosphere of the scene perfect to fit in with the progression of the script. Due to needing the weather to be cloudy and raining, days of filming would have to change, so only so much could be filmed in one day depending on the weather conditions. Only being a maximum of 3-4 shots that need to be in these weather conditions it should to slow down filming very much

Planning of Five minute extract

I have chosen to do the 20 key frame stills which is the equivalent to the five minute extract

Summary

The 20 key frame still will be taken towards the start of the film just after Daniel has failed to reproduce the same work which brought him success, so his character prior to this five minute extract would have been much more positive and engaging. The following 20 key frame stills, we will see Daniel struggling to find ambition again towards his writing and begins to give up on himself which asks the question of what will he do next?

Location for Pictures

The location for my 20 key frame stills will be at my own home, there are many reasons as to why i have chosen this location. They include:

-Allows easy access for filming

-Many props available for enhancing the filming such as clothes, books, boxes. All of which is what i need to suit my script
-Good control of lighting to set the atmosphere of the pictures to suit with the progression of the script

The reason behind my film in relation to my essay question is that i could not possibly reproduce the same style from films such as 'Rome Open City' (Roberto Rossellini, 1945) due to the fact that i was quite limited in what i was able to do but i decided to create a real life scenario which the audience could relate to to were they have succeeded in life but it begins to fade and they struggle to cope with what they have to do next.

Film Synopsis

Three years after Daniel Millers success of his first book he has found himself collapsing under the pressure of not being able to recreate what his fans fell in love with and constantly pushing back the deadline of his book and was eventually fired. Not knowing what to do with his life he spends most of his days staying in home trying to block the outside world. After months of not paying bills he was eventually evicted from his home, forced onto the street he looked back and realized that he only had himself to blame. Trying to work his way back up he knew he could not continue his writing career so soon without a stable income and home so began to look for work again.

After a few weeks of living on the streets and living with friends Daniel eventually found a job in a local restaurant as a waiter, he knew that this was not what he wanted to do but stayed positive in hope that he would move on from it. The constant criticism which he received from the customers eventually drove Daniel to the edge, seeing him lash out at one of the customers and being fired from his job. Daniel seen no return to the top and believed that there was nothing that he could do to help himself anymore.

Two weeks later he found himself on the streets begging in order to stay alive, his life had hit rock bottom. Turning to drugs and alcohol he ended up in an endless cycle of depression and anxiety. One night he awoke in a jail cell, confused and scared he was approached by his mother and farther who had organized him into going into rehab.

At rehab he found himself more depressed than ever, he seen the meetings as being pointless and just wanted life to go back the way that it was before his book. Seeing no progress in Daniel's condition he spent most of his time reading trying to find inspiration and return to the top again. After leaving rehabilitation he knew what he was going to write about, it had always been right in front of him.

Introduction

Essay Question- Has Italian Neo-realism influenced Film Noir?

The reason for choosing this question is because it is an interesting topic to look at the influence of Film Noir over the years following the war and how its styles have influenced the future of Film Noir. Also i believe it is a much more interesting area to discuss as there are many opposing factors that can refute Italian Neo-realism influence which makes it easier to write about as i am able to talk about other influences that either provide strong evidence or not. I have also chosen to do the 20 key frames still for my 5 minute sequence in relation to my essay question.

• A synopsis

• A written script for the non-filmed sequence

• A treatment

• A recce report

• Evidence of casting considerations

• Layouts for the 20 key frame stills

• A risk assessment.
